Alcoa
SafeDock
To reduce the risk of injury and damage to property, Alcoa needed to find a new training solution for "hazard recognition and awareness" for their loading dock personnel. Using 3D videogame technology, Etcetera Edutainment developed a virtual training solution: a simulated loading dock environment called SafeDock.
In the simulation, players participate simultaneously, just as co-workers would operate together on an actual loading dock. Trainees must load and unload heavy product from delivery trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other mobile equipment.
Instructors can define the experience through a series of options such as types of loads, numbers of trucks, available equipment, and existing safety hazards. Post-session reports and an instant replay feature allow the trainer to quickly and effectively evaluate the performance of trainees. Performance information is tracked and stored, so that instructors may evaluate the trainees’ performance in each game and over time.
Now being deployed in Alcoa locations nationwide, Etcetera Edutainment's Alcoa SafeDock promotes best practice in tasks generally employed in loading dock environments.
